Georgia Bureau of Investigation Agent Will Trent and Grant County Medical Examiner Dr. Sara Linton are seeing one another after working the case of her ex-husband’s murder (see Broken). When Georgia Tech sophomore Ashleigh Snyder vanishes, Trent expects his GBU superior Deputy Director Amanda Wagner to assign him and his partner Faith Mitchell the case; instead she tells him to back off. Stunned, Trent’s instincts know something ties Wagner to Snyder but has no idea what.

In 1975, Amanda and Faith’s mom Evelyn were rookie cops who investigated the disappearance of prostitutes and murder over the warnings of their experience all male peers. Now, as she exiles Trent to patrol the airport, she and just about the rest of the available GBI agents are all over Techwood in search of Ashleigh.

The latest Karin Slaughter Georgia police procedural (see Fallen) is an exhilarating somewhat violent thriller that effortlessly moves back and forth between what happened in 1975 and what is occurring today. The storyline is filled with action as time seems to be running out on Ashleigh, but also this time takes Wagner through the Slaughter meat grinder (see Fallen for Faith’s spin) as her life will be radically changed as it was back when she first started as a detective over three decades ago.
