The second Cosmic Christmas anthology contains thirteen overall entertaining holiday science fiction short stories with 2 being new and the remainder reprints or rewrites. The collection opens on a high quality level as a father attempts to sell an ancient SF tome printed in 1944 to buy Christmas presents in Joe Haldeman’s “Angel of Light”. In “Away in a Manger” by Wen Spencer, the engineered animals find a left behind human infant in a world no longer populated by Homo Sapiens. As the holidays arrive meteors also arrive that will destroy Earth with only the chosen ones escaping; being old means he will die but not before he says farewell to his beloved family in “A Christmas in Amber" by Scott William Carter. The reprint of Frederik Pohl’s “Happy Birthday, Dear Jesus” proves to hold up in today’s increasingly web-based economy as much as it did when published in the Eisenhower economy. Although there are some weaker entries, overall these authors and Hank Davis sing to readers: “We Wish You A Cosmic Christmas” 2.
