Kansas City Police Department feels good about capturing the Rose Red Rapist (see Task Force Bride), but knows this is not the time for euphoria since his partner the Cleaner remains free. The Cleaner always cleaned up the Rapist’s forensic evidence including murdering the victims.

However, PTSD sufferer Bailey Austin survived the assault so KCPD plans to protect her because they feel the obsessive Cleaner will not stop his compulsion to scrub away the evidence by killing her. Detective Spencer Montgomery understands his assignment is to keep Bailey safe, but is angry at himself due to his attraction to Bailey. Still Spencer will not act on his desire because he cost the life of a woman several years ago when he failed to keep his libido in check. When terrorizing Christmas gifts arrive for Bailey, Spencer increases his vigil as he expects the Cleaner to attempt to complete the job; but he will not allow any harm to come to the woman he loves.

Though it behooves the audience to read the prequel Task Force Bride, Yuletide Protector is a fascinating romantic police procedural due ironically to the unique villain even if the Cleaner seems over the top of Mount Sunflower. Julie Miller provides another winning The Precinct: Task Force entry (see Assumed Identity).
